Concentrations

The NCSSM Online program is a two year program. Students should take at least four courses and could take as many as eight courses, and these courses build towards a concentration.

Class of 2015

Concentrations for the Class of 2015 will be tied to completing a related sequence of courses built from our semester and summer symposium course catalog.   The concentrations will be noted on the transcript and on the certificate recieved at the Recognition Ceremony.

Class of 2015 concentrations will be posted in May.

Class of 2013 and 2014

The concentration is offered with four different themes: Science, Humanities, Math, and General.

  • Science Concentration:  At least three courses in the sciences plus an additional course from any field.
  • Math Concentration: At least three courses in mathematics plus an additional course from any field.
  • Humanities Concentration: At least three courses in humanities plus an additional course from any field.
  • General Concentration: A mixture of at least four courses.

We use broadly defined theme titles to encourage students to explore career and academic interests more broadly. Students do not need to declare a theme; instead the theme will be based on which courses they enroll and complete during the two year program.

Recognition Ceremony

Ceremony

Students that complete the two-year NCSSM Online program requirements are recognized at the end of their senior year at a formal ceremony at the NCSSM campus.  Students wear the academic regalia of their local school to this ceremony and receive a certificate noting their completion of the program requirements.   The ceremony features a student speaker selected from an essay competition and a reception for students and families afterwards.

Students at the ceremony are recognized for their different accomplishments in the NCSSM Online program.  Starting with the Class of 2015, students will need to complete a minimum requirement to receive a Certificate of Completion.  Students completing concentrations will receive additional recognition, including the NCSSM Online Chancellors medallion.
