Information for Local Schools

NCSSM Online is a competitive two-year program only open to applicants to the NC School of Science and Math and only offered to students that meet NCSSM's admissions criteria.

  • NCSSM Online is tuition free; NCSSM provides textbooks and software.
  • NCSSM Online courses have NC WISE course codes and can be placed by a public school onto a student's schedule. Students also receive a transcript from NCSSM.
  • All NCSSM Online courses are offered at the honors or AP level.
  • Juniors will enroll in their courses during the multi-day orientation at the NCSSM campus during the summer.
  • Fall classes start on August 23 on a semester system, and follow a typical public school calendar.
  • NCSSM Online students are required to have daily access to a computer that meets our tech requirements and reliable high speed internet access at home or another location outside of school.
  • NCSSM Online does not mandate students have time during the school day, but our experience and experiences nationally show students perform best when provided time to work on an e-learning course during school hours.
  • Students must take four courses while in the program, preferably two per year. Students receive a themed-certificate for meeting the program requirements.
  • See our Local Schools FAQ to learn more.
