What's your favorite part of your job as an Online Ambassador?
I love being able to work with younger students at my high school and all over the state. I enjoy sharing my perspective and experiences to help younger students like myself learn more about the programs offered at NCSSM.
What's your favorite part of NCSSM Online?
My favorite part of NCSSM Online is the wide variety of courses that are available and the collaboration with students from all over the state.
What's the biggest challenge you've encountered in the Online program?
Learning how to use new software needed for the computational classes offered at NCSSM.
What's an "aha" moment you've experienced in one of your Online classes?
In my computational chemistry class, I remember working on a project and finally figuring out a specific code and how to work the new program that we had just begun using. This moment helped me succeed on future assignments and fully understand some of the materials we were learning in the class.
What are two of your greatest interests or passions?
I love sciences. I want to go into the medical field when I get older due to my love of sciences. I also love sports and being active. I play 3 varsity sports: football, swim, and track.
During the pandemic, what have you missed most?
I have missed the social aspect of the school. As a senior, you look forward to senior nights with your team, the homecoming football game and dance, and all the other experiences that come along with graduating. I feel this is what I have missed the most throughout the pandemic.
How are you coping during the pandemic?
I really am utilizing a planner to make sure I accomplish all of my work. I spend a lot of time in the gym lifting weights or running. These things help create a balance in my life.
What are you looking forward to in the coming school year?
I am looking forward to starting college. I should have my associate's in science before I graduate high school, so I can't wait to get started on furthering my education in chemistry and preparing for the medical field.
What words of wisdom do you have for Online students?
Reach out to your teachers and fellow classmates. The online program is very inclusive when you want it to be. I have made some of my best friends through the program. I have also learned that someone is always willing to help when you are struggling.
Why should prospective students and their families consider NCSSM Online?
NCSSM Online allows students to have the same rigor found at NCSSM Residential while living at home. If the student is very active in their community or enjoys a club or sport that isn't offered at NCSSM Online is an incredible option. I have enjoyed Online and am grateful for all the opportunities I have had through the program.
