College/Major: Appalachian State University, Psychology

How long at NCSSM: This is my 10th year! 

Hi, J.J.! Thanks for joining us! We know that you serve the Online program as an Online Resource Coordinator (ORC), but what other hats do you wear at NCSSM?
I'm the 4th South Community Coordinator on the Morganton campus. I also drive our Mentorship students every Tuesday and Thursday, and volunteer for our golf team on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

What are your favorite aspects of your job?
Seeing the students grow from the beginning of their junior year through the end of their senior year. Teaching Residential Education curriculum in the classroom is also something I get enjoyment out of.

When you're not working, what do you like to do?
I enjoy spending time outdoors. Hiking, riding mountain bikes, and playing golf are just a few of the things I do for fun outdoors.

Favorite dessert?
My mom's yellow cake with chocolate frosting and a cold glass of whole milk.

Favorite movie?
Too many to choose from, but Primer, Hero, and Mr. Deeds are some of my favorites.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
British Columbia and Scotland.

What words of advice or wisdom do you have for Online students?
Come to Online Weekends even if it's optional, and stay overnight on Friday if at all possible. Get familiar with Discord and use it regularly to create the Online Community you desire.
