Sue Anne Lewis

Meet the ORCs: Sue Anne

February 2024

Name: Sue Anne Lewis

Hometown: Marshallberg, NC, though I call Durham home now!

College/Major: Meredith College, Exercise and Sport Science

How long at NCSSM: This is my 20th year!

Hi, Sue Anne! Thanks for joining us! We know that you serve the Online program as an Online Resource Coordinator (ORC), but what other hats do you wear at NCSSM?
I'm the 1st Hunt Community Coordinator as well as Service Learning Coordinator for all of NCSSM. I have also been the assistant volleyball coach for 17 years.

What are your favorite aspects of your job?
Getting to know the students! There's something to learn from everyone! Also, I've gotten the opportunity to travel to DC, France, Greece, and Italy to experience those countries with students!

When you're not working, what do you like to do?
I like spending time with my family, who lives with me on campus. My wife, Kelley, our 10-year-old daughter, Garrecyn, and our pup, Willow, keep me busy! We love going to the Durham Bulls games, eating good food, and enjoying the NCSSM community as a family when students are here.

Favorite dessert?
My mom's pineapple cake! It's by far my favorite and she makes it for me every year for my birthday.

Favorite movie?
My favorite movie is “A League Of Their Own.” I grew up playing softball and still remember going to the movie theater with my cousin to watch it when it came out.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I've been extremely lucky to have been given the opportunity to travel to so many countries through January Term, but I would love to visit Australia.

What words of advice or wisdom do you have for Online students?
Don't be shy—get to know your classmates, teachers, and most definitely the ORCs. The experience is what you make of it, so make the most! Come to activities, engage with your classmates on Discord, and enjoy the experience!

What else would you like for us to know about you?
Two truths and a lie. Guess which: I was in the Macy's parade, I met Cal Ripken, Jr., and I have a Guinness World Record.
